The only thing that I was motivated to do on Saturday was lay on the couch and watch the coverage of the Kentucky Derby. How I wanted to be there in person and for a fleeting moment even thought about attempting to make it work. After doing research for about two whole minutes, what I already knew became very apparent–NOT GONNA HAPPEN…this year anyway. I had a quick flashback to one of the last space shuttle launches, in which by the powers that be, I WAS able to get tickets at the last-minute. Thrilled, I boarded a plane bound for Kennedy Space Center. This little adventure/bucket list/childhood dream of mine didn’t end particularly well–I found myself in Florida for 15 days waiting for a broken shuttle to be fixed. Begrudgingly, I had to board a plane home before I was able to see the final launch of the Space Shuttle Endeavour. I figured I wouldn’t press my luck with this one–it’s not like this will be the last race run. There’s always next year, or more realistically, the year after that. One day I will make it to Churchill Downs in my derby best, hat and all, with a mint julep in hand. This year, I watched it on television from the comfort of my living room with a Starbucks Iced Coffee.
We were meeting friends for an early dinner and suddenly feeling inspired, I got my horsey mojo on. The horse tee I’m wearing is rather oversized but that is the beauty of a baggy top–tie a knot to give it shape and make it more snug. This way you can adjust to your level of comfort. I love pink and black so I made this very casual shirt, somewhat dressy with a fitted skirt. Black pumps and tons of layered silver jewelry added some spunk.
Congratulations Orb, 2013 Kentucky Derby Winner.
