I made a wrong turn yesterday which actually turned out to be the right one.
As you can see from my attire, I had no place important to be. I was headed into town for some errands. Mid-journey for whatever reason, I decided to turn around and head home. My dry-cleaning could wait another day.
Turning down this particular residential street led me to a beach that I haven’t visited since I was in the 8th grade. Memories flooded my mind when I saw this hidden strip of sand and all of a sudden I was back in middle school with friends in a time and place that was so precious. If I had only known then how quickly time would pass, I would have reveled in those moments. I can still remember walking that beach singing along to tunes by New Kids on the Block–oh how I loved them…most of us girls did.
Back then, this beach was such a treat as there were only a few times during school hours that we were able to walk there as a group. These mini-excursions were all for the sake of “physical education” or “science.” I know I live in Hawaii but we certainly weren’t going to the beach for “fun” during school hours–LOL! I really don’t think any one of us cared why we were there, in our uniforms no less, just that we were. Yesterday took me back 20+ years, yet I felt like no time had passed at all. Naturally so much has happened since–some of those friends have moved on, some remain but most of all yesterday on that little strip of heaven is right where I needed to be.
Glad I made that “wrong turn.”
