It’s rare that I am at a loss for words, neither written nor spoken. My background in Journalism has ensured that I can always come up with something to say and write, for better or worse. This shoot was a very odd experience from start to finish.
First, the clothes. I found myself wildly attracted to this Free People sweater. I’m not normally very bohemian but this one I could not pass up. Second, I’m not typically a short shorts wearing gal, yet these 7 for all mankind shorts appealed to me and somehow I walked out of the store with them too. hmmmm….
My closet is a mixture of everything–preppy, dressy, conservative, casual, fun, prim, edgy–basically a hot mess with absolutely no rhyme or reason. I find myself wanting to streamline, yet I cannot pick a look or stick with a theme. There are days when I swear up and down that going forward it’s only classic pieces for me and absolutely no prints! These theories of mine fly off into never land the second that I walk into a store. I buy what I am attracted to, it’s as simple as that. I’ve come to realize that I always will. I emerge daily not really knowing how I came up with the outfit that I did. No uniforms for me (those went out the door after grade school) and certainly no fashion rules here.
I was excited about wearing this little ensemble today and I thought taking some pictures would be fun. I didn’t think I would end up in some miniature version of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Bizarre. I found myself smack dab in the middle of a family of Mongoose ( I can still see those little eyes looking at me) at play. I saw a cat lounging in the sun on a rock. I swear he thought he was a lion. I dodged birds left and right. One was so beautiful and small–it had a red beak and was chirping away. And the insects–wow. This experience was surreal. Having been born and raised in Hawaii, I had no idea that I would encounter so many animals in one place. That being said, I was on my toes, literally and there are some pretty funny pictures that I will spare sharing.
This I must say was a lot of fun, albiet a bit nerve racking as I didn’t want to disturb these creatures. As you will see from the pics, they didn’t seem to mind. Apparently I was the only one who did.
