I was shopping the sale section at J.Crew a few weeks back when this sweater and skirt caught my eye. They were featured in seperate areas of the store and not necessarily intended to be an ensemble. J.Crew is known for their absolutely amazing array of colors–perfectly saturated, incredibly rich, and also bright, all without being obnoxious. Another feature unique to the brand is their ability to mix fabulous said colors as well as various patterns all with stunning results. I’ve seen them brilliantly pair plaids and florals…if that’s not true artistry, I don’t know what is. That being said, the monochromatic look is not necessarily something one would see on a mannequin while in the store. I badly wanted this sweater and skirt to work together without being boring so I grabbed both and headed toward the fitting room. While not seemingly a particularly challenging feat, if the design team intended for these two pieces to be worn together in true J.Crew fashion, they would have constructed a dress. When I emerged, a few of the sales associates were pleased at my pairing. The picture I’m painting of this rocket science moment in the store is ridiculous, I am aware–I mean really, this is a skirt and top of the SAME color. But the oufit needed more…a statement necklace, a belt, something…
Regardless, I was quite pleased with my colorful canvas that while bright, has many possibilies.
I decided to add a belt in a complimentary color. Peach typically looks fabulous with blues and greens and while both are standout colors, in this case it acts as a neutral. I wore my Nine West teal suede pumps to ground the outfit and remove the possible easter bunny effect. While the color packs a definite punch, this outfit could take you seamlessly from day through evening as the Vince Camuto bag can be folded over and used as a clutch. My earrings are from Sharrona’s Handcrafted Designs http://www.etsy.com/shop/sharrona a fabulous designer on etsy. If you can’t tell already, I love both handmade and vintage pieces which is why I favor Etsy to the degree that I do. The gold jewelry that I am wearing is all of a horse motif.
I brushed M.A.C. eyeshadow in Blue Divine on my lid and added Soft Matte Brown in the crease. For a bit more depth, I applied Texture to the corners. On my lips and cheeks is Bobbi Brown’s Coral Calypso Lip/Cheek cream. Bobbing for Baubles is the latest nail color that I picked up by Essie.
